 | CATHAR CASTLES
The castle of Montségur: Proudly drawn up at the top of its rock piton to more than 1200 meters of altitude, beaten by the winds, the fortress of Montségur is a mythical site. Regarded as the castle which would have sheltered Graal, it is also the symbol of the resistance of Cathar against the Catholic church. There, in 1244, refusing to abjure their faith, more than 200 “perfect” or “heretics” die on one to rough-hew drawn up at the bottom of the fortress, in a place now known under the name of “Prats dels Crémats” (Field of the Flarings).
